IMPORTANT READ FIRST!
Please try to follow our instructions on the RIGtalk CD-ROM and read this support page first before contacting us. E-mails are not an efficient way to resolve a question, but we will try, it may take several messages back and forth before we even figure out the nature of your question. Telephone support is usually quicker, especially if you are sitting in your ham station with your computer.

Windows® Vista drivers for RIGtalk
West Mountain Radio RIGtalk Windows Vista and XP driver preinstall.

Click HERE then click on "Open" to pre-install the latest Vista drivers for your RIGtalk

  • Note, this is a Pre-Installation! It only gives Windows the necessary information and files needed to do an automatic driver installation. It should be installed BEFORE plugging in your RIGtalk. After successfully completing this pre-installation you may then plug in your RIGtalk and allow Windows to do an automatic driver installation.
  • NOTE: YOU MUST IGNORE AND OVERRIDE ALL WARNINGS YOU MAY RECEIVE FROM MICROSOFT. IF YOU STOP, CANCEL, ABORT OR IN ANY WAY QUIT THE INSTALLATION AT ANY POINT THE RIGTALK WILL NOT WORK!!!!!!!
  • This installation is to used with all 32 bit versions of Windows Vista or XP.
  • Do NOT install these drivers on older versions of Windows!
  • If you have already installed an older version of our drivers on Vista or XP, and they are working correctly, it is not necessary to install this version.

PLUG & PLAY DRIVER INSTALLATION PROBLEMS.

First, before reading below, follow the RIGtalk owners manual driver installation instruction carefully before assuming that you have a problem. The owner's manual is on the CD-ROM or you can view it on-line above.

The RIGtalk is compatible with the Windows plug and play hardware installation system. For your convenience we have provided a custom driver pre-installer program on our CD-ROM to make the Windows plug and play driver installation to run automatically. The reason we warn you to run our driver pre-installation from the CD BEFORE plugging in the RIGtalk is so that you have an automatic plug & play installation.

If you fail to follow our instructions and you plug in the RIGtalk USB cable before installing the drivers with our driver pre-installation program you can still make it work correctly. Also if you have aborted or quit or in any way been unsuccessful installing the RIGtalk you may still make it work with Windows by doing a manual driver installation.

A manual driver installation will be necessary if you plug in the RIGtalk and Windows says: "found new hardware" but doesn't know what to do next and starts asking a bunch of questions.

We cannot guide you through this procedure step by step as the procedure is different according to which version of Windows that you have and also it will depend on what you have unsuccessfully attempted to do already.

A manual driver installation is simple in concept but requires that you carefully read and understand the rather confusing Windows message prompts and proceed slowly, step by step. There are two important things which you must do to properly complete a manual hardware driver installation of the RIGtalk.

ONE: You must complete the entire procedure and you must not quit at any point.
TWO: You must direct the Windows plug and play system to our CD ROM and to our "RIGtalk Drivers" folder. If you allow Windows to search and find the drivers in any other location the installation will fail!

DRIVER PRE-INSTALLATION "ERROR COPYING FILE"

You will get this message if you inadvertently run our pre-installer program more than one time. Disregard this message as it will have no effect on a new driver installation running correctly and automatically when you first plug in the RIGtalk plug & play. The important thing is that you do run the pre-installer program at least one time before plugging in the RIGtalk USB cable and that when you do you complete all of the installation by continuing to the end.

If you are interested the reason this message pops up it is because CD-ROM files are always read only. The first installation it copies the read only files without a problem. The second time it cannot overwrite the files that it had previously placed on your hard drive because they are read only and this is why the "Error copying file" message pops up.

RIGtalk driver installation *IMPORTANT NOTES*
Like both large and small companies West Mountain Radio has not spent thousands of dollars to have our software logo certified for Windows Vista or XP by Microsoft. You will receive a notice from Windows Vista or XP when you do the driver Pre-Intallation and also two more times during the Plug and Play Installation.

This notice will say: "This software you are installing has not passed Windows Log testing to verify its compatibility with Windows Vista or XP." along with further messages and warnings. You MUST select "Continue Anyway" otherwise the RIGtalk WILL NOT WORK.

If you incorrectly select "STOP Installation" and attempt to re-install the RIGtalk again you may have to un-install the RIGtalk and re-boot your computer before trying to re-install the RIGtalk correctly.

If you have difficulty re-installing the RIGtalk driver software after aborting an installation, Please call us when you are sitting in front of your computer.

Radio and Rig control software setup problem solving
YOU MUST CONSULT YOUR RADIO'S AND YOUR CONTROL SOFTWARE'S OWNERS MANUAL OR HELP TO SET UP RIG CONTROL! Do not expect the RIGtalk's instructions to cover anything more that how to set up the RIGtalk.

As outlined in the RIGtalk manual:

*****The following software settings MUST be set for rig control to function correctly!*****

The COM port number, assigned to the RIGtalk by Windows®.

The serial communication’s baud rate, parity and stop bits.

The radio make and model must be an EXACT MATCH.

The Icom or Ten Tec CI-V address.

If you do not understand how to set these settings correctly or if your RIG control doesn't work you MUST read the documentation for both your radio and the rig control program that you are attempting to use.

TIP: Set your radio back to the default settings for CAT or CI-V control.

TIP: If you cannot get one program to work, try a different program by a another author.
